Artist Nguyen Chat Luan – From a puppeteer to a skillful drummer

Artist Nguyen Chat Luan, aged 62, had played the role of a puppeteer of Nguyen Xa water puppet troupe for more than 40 years. However, because of the passing of previous generations of instrumentalists, he had to learn drumming and became the main drummer of the troupe.
“I always bear in mind that I’m a poor farmer. If it had not been for water puppetry, I could not have come to as many places as I have been doing. Therefore, I feel I need to show my gratitude to water puppetry ancestors by contributing more to this special performing art.”
